It's time to set up your holiday streaming campaign
Are you ready to reach holiday shoppers on CTV? For many streamers, the season is already underway.
Last year, according to Roku internal data, holiday content searches on Roku saw an 86% increase during October. And in November, those searches rise an average of 39% weekly. This surging holiday spirit is mirrored by consumer activity, as about half of Roku streamers shopped Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals in 2025.
Meeting those shoppers is easier than you might think. Begin with the seasonal outcome you hope to drive: awareness, online sales, leads, store visits, or another measurable goal. From there, define your audience, upload your creative, set the budget and campaign dates, and establish measurement before launching. You can even create a shoppable ad unit that lets streamers buy with a click of their remote.
Our holiday playbook offers a month-by-month guide to reaching shoppers during this all-important time of year.

The Big Read
Wall Street's Worst Day Since "Liberation Day" Erases a Postelection Rally
The S&P 500 sank 4.4% Thursday in its worst session since April 2025, as the Dow shed 1,833 points and the Nasdaq tumbled 5.5% into a correction. Data center stocks led the rout as calls for a data center moratorium after the Democratic sweep piled onto worries about borrowing costs and a possible bubble.
The selloff more than erased Wednesday's postelection rally, the market's best day in three months, and left the Nasdaq 11.9% below the all-time high set last month. South Korea's Kospi slid 5.3% as the pain spread worldwide, while Sen. Bernie Sanders posted "National data center moratorium now" after local voters approved restrictions Tuesday.
Schumer Vows Democrats Won't Seat a "Right-Winger" on the Supreme Court
Chuck Schumer vowed Thursday that Democrats will not allow a "right-winger" on the Supreme Court once in power, raising the possibility they could block a future nominee. He would not say whether he would hold a seat open until after the next presidential election, as former Republican leader Mitch McConnell did in 2016.
Schumer said Democrats are "not going to allow any crappy nominees" to the high court, the lower courts or Trump's Cabinet, signaling tougher confirmation fights ahead. The pledge came two days after Democrats won a decisive Senate majority, a result few predicted a year ago when Republicans counted on a favorable map.
Melania Trump Hosts Russian and Ukrainian Envoys, Pressing for a Lasting Truce
First lady Melania Trump welcomed Russian and Ukrainian delegations to the White House Thursday, urging a "more enduring" ceasefire after last week's truce around occupied Oleshky. Hundreds of residents facing starvation and constant bombardment evacuated during the six-day pause, which both Moscow and Kyiv credited President Trump with brokering in the Kherson region.
The unusual meeting gathered human rights ombudsmen Dmytro Lubinets and Yana Lantratova, Ukrainian lawmaker Davyd Arakhamia and Kremlin envoy Kirill Dmitriev, away from stalled peace talks. Both sides credited the first lady with a key but unspecified role, and she said she reviewed demining plans, aerial images, evacuation routes and hospital access.

Google, Meta and TikTok Sue to Block California's Limits on Kids' Social Media Feeds
What it is: Google, Meta and TikTok filed separate federal lawsuits Thursday seeking to block a California law meant to protect children from social media, arguing it violates their First Amendment rights. Set to take effect on Jan. 1, 2027, the law bars tech companies from offering addictive feeds, endless scrolling and autoplayed videos to anyone under 16 years old.
The detail: Platforms would also need to take "reasonable measures" to verify users' ages, and the companies argue the rules also violate Section 230, which shields them from liability for users' posts. TikTok called the law "a blatantly unconstitutional restriction on free expression," while Meta warned it would have to remove age-appropriate teen features or cut thousands of California teens off.
Why it matters: The fight lands as tech giants face thousands of lawsuits from schools, governments and individual families over their platforms' harms to children and the features designed to hook them. In August, Meta agreed to pay up to $18 billion and add stronger child-safety measures to settle teen social media addiction claims filed by nearly every state in the country.
What to watch: California Attorney General Rob Bonta's office, the defendant in all three suits, said it was reviewing the filings and remains committed to defending state laws that protect kids online. The key question is whether federal judges in San Francisco, Los Angeles and San Jose pause the law before its Jan. 1 start, while parents watch for any feed changes.
