Blu Dot surpasses 2,000% ROAS with self-serve CTV ads

Home furniture brand Blu Dot blew up on CTV with help from Roku Ads Manager. Here’s how:

After a test campaign reached 211,000 households and achieved 1,010% ROAS, the brand went all in to promote its annual sales event. It removed age and income constraints to expand reach and shifted budget to custom audiences and retargeting, where intent was strongest.

The results speak for themselves. As Blu Dot increased their investment by 10x, ROAS jumped to 2,308% and more page-view conversions surpassed 50,000.

“For CTV campaigns, Roku has been a top performer,” said Claire Folkestad, Paid Media Strategist, Blu Dot. “Comping to our other platforms, we have seen really strong ROAS… and highly efficient CPMs, lower than any other CTV partner we've worked with.”

Using Roku Ads Manager, the campaign moved from a pilot to a permanent performance engine for the brand.

The Big Read

Israel Moves to Close the West Bank Days Before Its Election

Israeli soldiers shot and killed two men who the military said launched an attack near Hebron in the occupied West Bank on Friday morning, and at least five people were injured, some critically. Hours later, Netanyahu's office ordered security forces to cordon off Hebron and prepare to close all of the West Bank.

The army said the gunmen carried an M16 rifle and a handgun but did not say what they had targeted or identify anyone involved. Israelis vote Tuesday on whether to give Netanyahu another term, and his government has warned of possible attacks by the country's enemies before the election.

Supreme Court Lets New Hampshire Bar Student IDs at the Polls

The Supreme Court on Thursday cleared the way for New Hampshire to fully ban the use of student IDs for voting in the midterms, granting a Republican-backed emergency appeal and blocking their use as a backup form of identification. Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson was the only justice to publicly dissent.

The court cited a long-standing principle that judges should not change voting rules too close to Election Day. The law's sponsor said colleges lack the controls government agencies use when issuing IDs, and the ruling comes less than two weeks before a closely contested Senate race.

Meta Will Give Zuckerberg More Shares to Offset a Proposed Billionaire Tax

Meta has agreed to give Mark Zuckerberg more shares to make up for what he could lose if California voters approve a one-time tax on billionaires in November, after he told the board he was thinking of moving out of the state. The measure would impose a 5% tax on residents worth more than $1 billion.

It would likely cost Zuckerberg, whose wealth is estimated at over $200 billion, around $10 billion in additional state taxes. He secured the deal from a special Meta committee after negotiations that a financial disclosure described as robust and at several points contentious. About 225 billionaires live in California, according to an advocacy group.

Deep Dive

Jet Fuel Is Driving Holiday Airfares Toward a 10-Year High

What it is: Thanksgiving airfares are up about 30% from last year and Christmas tickets more than 20%, according to the lead economist at the travel booking firm Hopper, as airlines pass on the cost of jet fuel. The average US price of jet fuel topped $4.75 a gallon this week, close to an all-time high and almost twice what it was a year ago.

The detail: Fuel is one of airlines' biggest expenses, and Hopper says fares are at what it sees as a 10-year high because of it. A Dallas couple who flew to Baltimore this week paid hundreds of dollars more than they expected and are now unsure they can afford a holiday trip. Shoppers are comparing more and booking earlier to find deals.

Why it matters: So far travelers seem willing to pay for big trips home, and Delta's chief executive said customers have put up a "limited amount of resistance." The head of the main US airline trade group said carriers are absorbing most of the cost while passing some on. The US has more oil-producing and refining capacity than Europe, which may soften the hit here.

What to watch: Ryanair's chief executive predicts European fares could rise 10% to 20% next year, in what he called likely the biggest increase in history there, and some in the industry expect fares to keep climbing.
