Blu Dot surpasses 2,000% ROAS with self-serve CTV ads
Home furniture brand Blu Dot blew up on CTV with help from Roku Ads Manager. Here’s how:
After a test campaign reached 211,000 households and achieved 1,010% ROAS, the brand went all in to promote its annual sales event. It removed age and income constraints to expand reach and shifted budget to custom audiences and retargeting, where intent was strongest.
The results speak for themselves. As Blu Dot increased their investment by 10x, ROAS jumped to 2,308% and more page-view conversions surpassed 50,000.
“For CTV campaigns, Roku has been a top performer,” said Claire Folkestad, Paid Media Strategist, Blu Dot. “Comping to our other platforms, we have seen really strong ROAS… and highly efficient CPMs, lower than any other CTV partner we've worked with.”
Using Roku Ads Manager, the campaign moved from a pilot to a permanent performance engine for the brand.
The Big Read
White House Press Secretary Exits After Just Five Days
Katie Zacharia is leaving her press secretary role, a White House official said, ending a five-day tenure marked by a halting briefing that took three reporters' questions. An official confirmed the shake-up to CNBC after Trump said he urged her to reconsider, making her stint shorter than Anthony Scaramucci's.
Scrutiny centered on her legal credentials after Zacharia answered "When I moved to China" when asked where she passed the bar exam. Trump said she had been treated "pretty nastily," and her exit lands 18 days before midterms in which Republicans are scrambling to limit losses.
Apple's Priciest iPhone Ever Sells Out Launch-Day Pickups
Apple opened preorders for its foldable iPhone Duo Friday, and launch-day pickup inventory sold out as some delivery estimates slipped into late January. Its first foldable starts at $1,999 and passes $3,000 at the 2TB tier, creating a new price point above the Pro and Pro Max.
Apple called demand "nothing short of extraordinary," while analysts told CNBC the real bet is making a small group of top spenders significantly more valuable. IDC expects foldables at just over 2% of global smartphone units this year but nearly 7% of revenue, a gap central to Apple's bet.
Trump Denies Ordering Starlink Limits on Ukraine's Military
President Trump on Friday denied the White House ordered restrictions on Ukraine's military Starlink service, after Elon Musk wrote that the US government controls Starshield systems. Kyiv is in talks with SpaceX and the Pentagon to lift a cap cutting terminals' connections above 100 mph, a Zelenskyy adviser said.
The restriction, imposed without warning Thursday, forced Ukrainian drones to fly slower and made them easier targets, and an adviser said several missions failed. Poland's deputy prime minister Radoslaw Sikorski, whose government buys Starlink for Ukraine, warned Musk that "As your European customers, we are watching you."

Deep Dive
Federal Deficit Nears $2 Trillion as Interest Tops $1 Trillion
What it is: The Treasury Department reported Friday that the 2026 fiscal year closed with a $1.992 trillion deficit, about 12% above last year's $1.775 trillion and the third-highest in US history. Only 2020 and 2021 ran bigger gaps, when Washington was sending out trillions in Covid-19 stimulus, and it marks the 25th straight year in the red.
The detail: Social Security was the biggest expense at nearly $1.7 trillion, followed by Medicare at almost $1.1 trillion, while net interest on the debt also topped $1 trillion. Individual income taxes brought in more than $2.8 trillion, but corporate receipts fell about $70 billion to $381 billion after last year's One Big Beautiful Bill Act tax cuts.
Why it matters: The rising debt bill has fed anxiety among bond traders, who pushed 10-year and 30-year Treasury yields to 24-year highs just last week, according to CNBC. Total debt owed exceeded $40 trillion earlier this year and has more than doubled over the last decade, while interest on the public debt topped $1.3 trillion.
What to watch: Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has argued the US can "grow our way out of" the debt, while tariffs set customs records but refunds followed the Supreme Court ruling. Watch whether that growth and tariff revenue can narrow a gap now running at the third-highest level in history, with September alone posting a $27 billion deficit.
