A major airline is disappearing from the skies, but the ripple effects on prices and routes are just starting. A legal fight over gun laws is moving toward a decision that could reshape what cities can enforce.

At the same time, a new approach to homeschooling is raising bigger questions about how much oversight is too much. These stories may seem separate, but they point to changing rules in how Americans travel, live and govern.

Blu Dot surpasses 2,000% ROAS with self-serve CTV ads

Home furniture brand Blu Dot blew up on CTV with help from Roku Ads Manager. Here’s how:

After a test campaign reached 211,000 households and achieved 1,010% ROAS, the brand went all in to promote its annual sales event. It removed age and income constraints to expand reach and shifted budget to custom audiences and retargeting, where intent was strongest.

The results speak for themselves. As Blu Dot increased their investment by 10x, ROAS jumped to 2,308% and more page-view conversions surpassed 50,000.

“For CTV campaigns, Roku has been a top performer,” said Claire Folkestad, Paid Media Strategist, Blu Dot. “Comping to our other platforms, we have seen really strong ROAS… and highly efficient CPMs, lower than any other CTV partner we've worked with.”

Using Roku Ads Manager, the campaign moved from a pilot to a permanent performance engine for the brand.

The Big Read

Spirit Airlines Liquidation Begins in Bankruptcy Court

Spirit Airlines lawyers returned to a New York bankruptcy court on Tuesday, seeking approval to dismantle the once busy budget carrier. The filing covers a phased shutdown that would turn its planes, slots, and gates into cash for creditors within weeks.

Spirit grounded its remaining fleet last month after a failed second restructuring. Customers with future bookings will be issued credits or refunds through the trustee process.

Industry analysts said the move clears runway for Frontier and JetBlue to absorb routes and personnel. The collapse marks the largest US airline failure since the early pandemic and reshapes pricing on dozens of leisure routes overnight.

Trump Sues Denver Over Assault Weapons Ban

The Trump administration sued the city of Denver on Tuesday over its strict assault weapons ban, opening a federalism fight that could set the tone for the second term. The complaint argues that local rules cannot override broader federal gun law.

Denver's mayor called the suit a political stunt and vowed to defend the ordinance in court. Civil rights and gun control groups planned a coordinated legal response within 24 hours.

The case is the first major federal challenge of any city level gun law since the new administration took office. Legal scholars said the eventual ruling could shape whether other Democratic cities can keep their bans intact.

Connecticut Adopts First Homeschool Regulation

Connecticut on Tuesday adopted the nation's first homeschool regulation, requiring families to register with school districts and submit annual learning portfolios. State Republicans pushed back hard, calling the new requirements a major government overreach.

Education advocates said the rules respond to concerns about isolated children in unmonitored home learning settings. Homeschool networks complained the paperwork is invasive and impossible to comply with for working parents.

The law takes effect September 1 and will be watched as a template by other states wrestling with rising homeschool numbers. Connecticut superintendents said they will hire additional staff to handle the new annual filings.

Deep Dive

Trump Federal Power Plays Reshape America

What Happened: Senate Republicans introduced a bill to direct one billion dollars toward security upgrades around the planned new White House ballroom that has consumed Trump's first months in office. Backers cast the funding as routine, but watchdogs said the bill commits federal money to a personal vanity project at a time of fiscal restraint. Critics on both sides of the aisle questioned the math and the optics.

Why It Matters: The federal government is also offering local police departments cash incentives to deputize officers under a 287(g) program that lets them make immigration arrests. Police leaders say the bonuses are large enough to reshape budgets in mid sized cities and pull officers off other beats. Civil liberties groups warned the deals will widen the deportation pipeline and strain local trust.

Key Variables: Trump on Tuesday revived the Presidential Physical Fitness Award and reintroduced a competitive physical fitness test for American schoolchildren. Education groups warned the order pulls the federal government back into K through 12 standards a generation after Republicans dismantled them. Pediatricians flagged concerns over body image and disability accommodation in the new test.

What to Watch: Reporters traced demolition debris from the East Wing teardown to the Trump owned East Potomac golf course in DC, where soil samples showed elevated lead and arsenic. The findings put a fresh spotlight on the speed of the East Wing renovation ordered earlier this spring. Environmental lawyers said the dump may violate federal hazardous waste rules.
