Blu Dot surpasses 2,000% ROAS with self-serve CTV ads

Home furniture brand Blu Dot blew up on CTV with help from Roku Ads Manager. Here’s how:

After a test campaign reached 211,000 households and achieved 1,010% ROAS, the brand went all in to promote its annual sales event. It removed age and income constraints to expand reach and shifted budget to custom audiences and retargeting, where intent was strongest.

The results speak for themselves. As Blu Dot increased their investment by 10x, ROAS jumped to 2,308% and more page-view conversions surpassed 50,000.

“For CTV campaigns, Roku has been a top performer,” said Claire Folkestad, Paid Media Strategist, Blu Dot. “Comping to our other platforms, we have seen really strong ROAS… and highly efficient CPMs, lower than any other CTV partner we've worked with.”

Using Roku Ads Manager, the campaign moved from a pilot to a permanent performance engine for the brand.

Trump Tells Ohio Voters Federal Help Hinges on the Midterms

Speaking at a Saturday rally in Vandalia, Ohio, President Donald Trump said he would be less inclined to help the state if Democrats win its key races on Nov. 3.

Pointing to Democrat Amy Acton, who faces Vivek Ramaswamy for governor, Trump said "I'm not going to help her," while Sen. Jon Husted battles former Sen. Sherrod Brown. Ohio's Senate race is among eight rated competitive, and gasoline prices in the state have climbed 35 percent over the past year as Trump's approval ratings have slipped.

Japan Lodges Rare Protest After a U.S. Marine's Arrest in Okinawa

Japan lodged a rare protest with Washington on Sunday after Lance Cpl. Devin J. Ballard, 20, was accused of robbing and killing a 39-year-old woman found in a Naha hotel.

Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi called it an "extremely brutal and heinous incident," a case that could revive tension over Okinawa, home to 70 percent of U.S. bases in Japan. The Third Marine Expeditionary Force confirmed a Marine was in custody, while the U.S. Embassy in Tokyo said it would cooperate with the investigation and offered condolences.

Cornell Records Reveal How Seven Accused Fraternity Members Were Punished

Discipline summaries obtained by The New York Times show Cornell expelled two of seven fraternity members accused by a fellow student of sexual assault, while suspending two others.

All seven men deny wrongdoing and none has been charged, though Gov. Kathy Hochul appointed Attorney General Letitia James on Thursday as a special prosecutor able to bring charges. Jane Doe's lawyer, Thomas Giuffra, said the punishments "did not reflect the severity of the charges," while Cornell declined to comment, citing federal student privacy laws.

Supreme Court Weighs Whether Oil Giants Can Be Sued Over Climate Damage

What it is: Nearly a decade after Boulder, Colo., sued Exxon Mobil and Suncor Energy over climate change, the Supreme Court is about to consider whether that lawsuit can ever reach trial. Boulder argues the companies should help pay for damage such as worsening heat waves and wildfires, while the companies say federal law should override the state-law claims.

The detail: About three dozen similar cases have been filed by state and local governments, and roughly two dozen remain active, though none has yet gone to trial anywhere.

Why it matters: A win for Boulder would likely clear the way for dozens of similar lawsuits seeking billions from the fossil fuel industry, while a loss could doom the others nationwide. Supporters compare the fight to 1990s tobacco litigation that produced a $206 billion settlement, while critics like former Colorado Attorney General Gale Norton say the comparison misses the mark.

What to watch: Columbia's Michael Gerrard outlined four possible outcomes, and only a ruling that knocks out all of Boulder's claims would likely end the other cases, he wrote. Lawyers will also watch for the EPA's revoked endangerment finding, which critics call a paradox: Washington is retreating from regulating greenhouse gases yet claims sole authority over them.
